Will Smith & Chris Rock - The Perfect Storm
What brings a man to slap another man on live television?
If Will Smith had an astrologer, he would have known that there were some stressful energies in the heavens, which were transiting his natal chart.
Will Smith has the Moon (which rules emotions and that limbic part of us) in Scorpio at 21°. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, the sign opposite Scorpio and is therefore in Fall in Scorpio. The Moon is pretty unhappy in Scorpio…very moody, inclined to have intense, passionate loves and hates, and also extremely protective of one’s loved ones.
What he didn’t know was that his Moon & his Juno were being triggered big time by several transits.
First, transiting Saturn at 21° Aquarius was/is squaring his Moon, which he’s undoubtedly been feeling as a building feeling of dread for the past several weeks. Because Saturn will go retrograde and cross over this degree 2 more times this year, this could bring some deep introspection and sadness for him. The last square will happen on December 17, 2022.
Next, we have his Juno at 15° Scorpio, which represents, marriage and therefore his wife, Jada.
Transiting Moon was conjunct Mars during the Oscars at 15-16° Aquarius in a tight square to his Juno and they were sitting in his 10th House right on his Midheaven. This brings his anger into full view of the public. The 10th House represents one’s career, so that slap, because he felt so offended for his wife, was a classic demonstration of this aspect.
On their own, these might not have provoked such a dramatic display, but there’s more going on with his chart. His Chiron is 01° Aries sesquiquadrate (135°) his Juno, opposite his 02° Libra Sun, and quincunx his 02° Virgo Mars.
All of this indicates that Will can be extremely sensitive, especially where his wife is concerned.
Chiron is the “wounded healer” and one of the touchiest places in our charts. Transiting Mercury in Aries (ruled by Mars, the god of war), was conjunct his Chiron, also triggering some core wounding for him.
Mercury rules our thoughts and is also known as the trickster, so while most of us probably would have checked our emotions, his own Mercury (which is his chart ruler, given his Gemini Ascendant) and his Venus in Libra have both been squared by Pluto (god of the underworld), who brings up that which lurks below in the subconscious. This is another long-term transit, which he has probably been feeling since mid-February and which will be hitting his chart until Pluto moves into Aquarius in March of 2023.
Speaking of tricksters, Chris Rock’s Mercury is conjunct his own Sun in Aquarius, which makes anyone fair game for his jokes, but with the midpoint of transiting Mars & Saturn sitting right on his Sun & Mercury, Chris is undoubtedly getting some of the fallout from his insensitivity towards Jada.
There is so much more to unpack here, but suffice it to say, it was the perfect storm against Will Smith last night, and as he poignantly said as he was receiving his Oscar, “Denzel Washington told me: 'At your highest moment, be careful. That's when the devil comes for you.'”
Sadly, Will felt so offended by Chris Rock’s comedy and spoiled what was otherwise a lovely night for many and himself.
If only he had been forewarned and aware that he might feel overly sensitive. Knowledge is power. Knowledge also creates understanding, which for us can lead to compassion for Will and others who are going through some challenging astronomical aspects.
Nothing condones violence, but when William and I looked at his chart last night, our hearts went out to him. He was in a great deal of pain.
It is our wish that anyone who is about to have a big night like Will had, would consult with an astrologer beforehand, so that when they walk into that perfect storm of energies, they can feel them but then pause and think, “My astrologer told me that this would happen,” and they would simply close their eyes, take a breath, smile, and when the time comes, graciously walk up to the podium and accept their award and be acknowledged for their craft.
